Chiara Nardo receives Translation Talent Prize 2026

Chiara Nardo (1976) receives the Dutch Foundation for Literature's Translation Talent Prize 2026, for her exceptional translations from Dutch into Italian. She was selected by the jury from a strong field of twenty nominees, all of whom are distinguished by the high quality of their work and who contribute in various ways to the field of literary translation from Dutch. Chiara Nardo will receive the prize on the 26th of June during the Literaire Vertaaldagen, an annual event for literary translators in and from Dutch.
The jury consisted of Haidee Kotze (chair and professor of Translation Studies at Utrecht University), Emmanuelle Tardif (Dutch–French translator) and Olga Amagliani (Dutch–Italian translator).
Chiara Nardo studied classical languages at the University of Padua, specialising in Latin, and graduated cum laude. In 2005, she completed a course in Dutch as a second language at the Language Centre of Tilburg University. She then went on to study for a Master’s degree in Dutch Language and Literature, which she also completed cum laude. She has been working as a literary translator from Dutch since 2011. She has translated both fiction and non-fiction by authors such as Sandra Langereis, Eva Meijer, Mathijs Deen, Frank Westerman, Olivier Van Beemen, David Van Reybrouck and Bart Van Loo.
About the Dutch Foundation for Literature's Translation Talent Prize
The Dutch Foundation for Literature’s Translation Talent Prize is an annual prize for a translator who, even at an early stage in their career, has demonstrated remarkable talent for translation and is actively committed to the translation profession. One year, the prize is awarded to a literary translator into Dutch; the following year, to a translator from Dutch. With this new prize, the Dutch Foundation for Literature emphasises the importance of continuity and quality within this profession, particularly at a time when language teaching is under pressure. The winner is awarded €10,000.
